Boy Butter - 25 oz Squeeze Bottle

Boy Butter Original is a creamy, coconut-oil-based lubricant that comes in a 25 oz squeeze tub for easy dosing. On contact with your skin it loses its white colour and turns clear, and the brand says it lasts as long as a silicone lubricant. It's edible, non-toxic, washes off skin and fabric with just water, and can be used with silicone toys.

Who it suits and who it doesn't

If you like a rich, creamy texture that doesn't need topping up all the time and rinses off with water, no special soaps required, this is a good fit. It suits you if you own silicone toys, as Boy Butter states it is safe to use with them. Being edible, it also works for play that involves the mouth. With 25 oz in the tub, it goes a long way if you use it often and don't want to keep buying more.

How to use it and look after it

To remove it from your skin or fabric, water is all you need.

• Oils and oil-based lubricants damage latex.

Compatibility

• Toys: Boy Butter states it is 100 % compatible with silicone toys.
• Skin: It loses its colour on contact with your skin and turns clear, and the brand describes it as non-toxic and edible.
• Ingredients: It contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, glycerin, polysorbate 60, tocopheryl acetate, glyceryl stearate and phenyl trimethicone.

General tips

Common good practice for this type of product; these are not the manufacturer's instructions.

• Wipe up anything that drips on the floor straight away: it's very slippery, especially in the shower.
• If you have sensitive skin, test a small amount on the inside of your arm first and wait a while before using it on intimate areas.
• A lubricant is not a contraceptive and doesn't protect against sexually transmitted infections.
• Put a towel underneath: the oil can stain sheets and other fabrics.

How it differs

• COBECO Fist Assist Butter: Both are oil-based, but Boy Butter is stated to be edible, to wash out of skin and fabric with water and to work with silicone toys; the COBECO Fist Assist Butter, in a 500 ml tub, is presented as vegan and cruelty-free. If vegan is what decides it for you, look at the COBECO; if you want silicone toy compatibility and water cleanup, go for Boy Butter.
• Shunga Toko Silicone Lubricant: The Shunga Toko Silicone Lubricant is silicone-based and the brand says it can be used underwater; Boy Butter is an edible coconut-oil cream that turns clear on your skin. For use in water, choose the Shunga; for a creamy texture that can also go near your mouth, choose Boy Butter.
